My philosophy of teaching is pretty simple, keep students inspired while they continue to grow!
I take beginners to professionals, anyone looking to take what they know and grow it week by week. We all play music for fun, but isn't it more fun when you improve? If you stick with it you get better, but the right kind of practice is necessary. I teach you how to practice more efficiently, eventually learning to teach yourself.
For beginners we learn three chords, and ten songs with those three chords. In that time we talk about everything from posture and ergonomics, to reading notes and scales. And at the end of it you've got ten songs to play! Three more chords, ten more songs. Before you know it you've got a whole set to play!
For the Pros we talk more about taste, intonation, tone, reading, improvisation, timing, and polymeter.
My lessons (and 30 minutes a day) can help you get started and stay focused. I teach in inner SE. I charge $40 hourly, $20 half hour. The book I teach out of is $10. Payment will be at the beginning of the month for the month. Thanks!

DRUMSDrums are the heartbeat of any band. The drummer has to learn the songs, have steady time and keep the music energetic. One of the easiest instruments to pick up a thing or two on, but one of the hardest to master it doesn't take long before you realize it takes real time and training to become a drummer!
I concentrate on reading, timing, and most important, listening. I will answer your questions each week. |
GUITARThere is endless interest in the guitar, and for good reason. It is portable and yet has the widest range of any instrument aside from the piano. It can play chords like the piano but it can also bend notes, be easily retuned and is also the perfect accompaniment for voice. No wonder it remains one of the worlds most popular instruments.
Each week we will build incrementally on tunes and songs, discussing the fundamentals while building a set of music to play. |
BASSBass is a noble instrument. A good bassist drives the band, but often goes virtually unnoticed. Because good bass playing is so often felt, learning to hear the bass can be a real challenge. Basslines can be the catchiest part of a song but we hardly notice them. And what the bassist is really doing is deceptively tricky.
Each week we'll work on some fun challenging basslines, learn how to walk through chord progressions, play with a bow, play scales, arpeggios and read bass clef. |
